Rail/HS2 - investment to create capacity for the UK rail networkOver the last several years the amount of rail traffic has increased substantially both in terms of passenger miles and freight carried. At the current rate significant sections of the UK rail network – primarily the West Coast Mainline will reach capacity within the next decade. Coupled with sub-standard rolling stock in the North of England and the conclusion is that major investment is required.
