Skills - giving employers control
A true demand-led system where employers have a direct influence on what funding for skills training is available will ensure that the workforce is trained to maximum efficiency and fully reflects employer needs.
The Chamber led on this work through its Employer Ownership of Skills pilot work part of its new Skills Service. The evidence is that employer control of training works and is welcomed by business though more needs to be done to help SMEs.

Young People - creating the future workforce
Many employers feel that a vital part of the education experience for young people should include effective contact and exposure to the "world of work".
For too long young people have not had access to adequate careers guidance and practical hands-on "proper" work experience with the direct guidance and support of business. Urgent changes are needed to sort this huge barrier to young people getting valuable and meaningful exposure to business.
